The average person needs a LOT of protein daily. Our skin, nails, hair, teeth…not to mention cells and organs are made primarily of proteins. So when we slack on protein, we shortchange ourselves BIG TIME! But how much protein do you need? Take a look at this chart!

You can see that for the majority of our lifespan, we need 55g per day of protein. That’s a LOT, and there’s good reason for that! But sometimes it can be hard to get that much protein in daily! So I wanted to put together some easy tips on how to add more protein to your diet!

When you first start out wondering how to add more protein to your diet, things can be overwhelming!

How much protein is IN everything?

Isn’t the main source of protein from meat?

I don’t eat meat, how will I get enough protein?

You may even be in a special circumstance where you need even MORE protein than the recommended amount. Such as nursing mothers, who need an EXTRA 20g per day!

 

It seems so hard to know how to add more protein to your diet! But it’s really not! You might be surprised to see just how much protein is in every day foods that are NOT meat!

Check out this chart that totally surprised me! I’m not a meat eater (or much of a dairy person!), so I was STOKED to see what great things I can eatย  that pack a protein-filled punch!

Need a practical application for how to add more protein to your diet?

How about a sample day’s diet!? ๐Ÿ™‚

Breakfast: Oatmeal with sunflower seeds and almond milk or a good protein shake

Snack: 1 c cottage cheese or almonds

Lunch: Spinach salad with quinoa and salmon

Snack: 1 c edamame or avocado

Dinner: Veggie Chili made with kidney beans and other lentils

When I saw that graphic, I realized just how to add more protein to your diet and how easy it is! I like everything on that list, and I can opt out of the dairy and STILL have plenty of options. I hope that this post was as eye opening for you as it was for me when I came across these graphics. As a woman, I didn’t realize just how much protein I should actually be consuming everyday. When I saw how much protein was in the foods that I really like, and that I didn’t have to eat a bunch of meat to get the protein I need, I was pretty excited!

I’m going to make it a goal to really try and incorporate as much protein as possible into my daily diet. It can only be a good thing right? ๐Ÿ™‚
